بررسی‌های دیگر بیانگر این بود که خشونت خانوادگی در جوامع، گستردگی زیاد دارد، در میان تمامی طبقات اجتماعی و خرده‌فرهنگ‌های مختلف دیده می‌شود و عواملی مانند فشارها و تنش‌های اجتماعی یا بحران‌های خانوادگی در بروز آن دخالت نـدارنـد؛ زیـرا خـشـونت تنها در خانواده‌های مسئله‌دار مشاهده نمی‌شود؛ بلکه حتی در میان خانواده‌های طبقات میانی و بالا با شرایط اقتصادی و روابط خانوادگی به ظاهر مطلوب و بدون هر نوع مشکل اجتماعی یا خانوادگی نیز وجود دارد. خشونت بدنی سنگین (سخت) که منجر به ورود جراحات و صدمات جدی به قربانی می‌شود و به صورت معمول از طرف افکار عمومی نفی می‌گردد و خشونت سبک (ملایم) مانند سیلی و پشت دستی که به صـورت مـعـمـول در افکار عمومی زیر عنوان «تربیت» رده‌بندی می‌شود و نگرش منفی نسبت به آن وجود ندارد. انواع دیگر خشونت نیز به‌تدریج مشخص شدند؛ انواعی که هرچند جراحات بدنی را به دنبال ندارند؛ اما تأثیر آنها بر قربانی حتی می‌تواند بیشتر از خشونت بدنی هم باشد. از جمله این خشونت‌ها، خشونت روانی (تحقیر، دشنام، از میان بردن اعتماد به نفس)، خشونت اقتصادی (در مضیقه مالی قرار دادن قربانی) و خشونت اجتماعی (انزوای اجتماعی و ممانعت از برقراری روابط اجتماعی) بودند.
