لامپ هالوژن نوعی لامپ رشته‌ای است که در آن رشته به وسیله گازهای فشرده و خنثی و مقدار اندکی از عناصر هالوژن مانند ید و برم احاطه شده است. چرخه موجود در لامپ‌های هالوژن که موجب ته‌نشین شدن مجدد تنگستن بخار شده بر روی رشته می‌شود نقش موثری در افزایش عمر این نوع لامپ‌های دارد. در این لامپ‌ها به علت وجود همین چرخه امکان بالا بردن دمای رشته بدون کاهش یافتن عمر لامپ نسبت به لامپ‌های معمولی نیز به وجود می‌آید که به افزایش بهره‌وری این لامپ‌ها می‌انجامد. این لامپ‌ها همچنین به علت اندازه کوچکترشان کابردهای خاصی در سیستم‌های روشنایی دارند.
مزایای لامپ های هالوژن :
صرفه جویی در مصرف انرژی به میزان 30% در مقایسه با لامپ های رشته ای،
کیفیت نور برتر در مقایسه با لامپ های رشته ای،
میانگین عمر طولانی تر در مقایسه با لامپ های رشته ای،
قابلیت تعویض آسان حباب و کپسول.
معایب:
تولید گرمای زیاد، اتلاف انرژی، هنگام تعویض حباب باید دقت زیادی به خرج دهید، در صورت تماس با مایعات به سرعت واکنش نشان می‌دهند
