ترانسفورماتور یا ترانسفورمر (به انگلیسی: transformer) وسیله‌ای است که انرژی الکتریکی را به وسیلهٔ دو یا چند سیم‌پیچ و از طریق القای الکتریکی از یک مدار به مداری دیگر منتقل می‌کند. به این صورت که جریان جاری در مدار اول (اولیهٔ ترانسفورماتور) موجب به وجود آمدن یک میدان مغناطیسی در اطراف سیم‌پیچ اول می‌شود، این میدان مغناطیسی به نوبهٔ خود موجب به وجود آمدن یک ولتاژ در مدار دوم می‌شود که با اضافه کردن یک بار به مدار دوم این ولتاژ می‌تواند به ایجاد یک جریان ثانویه بینجامد.
هسته ترانسفورماتورها از ورقه های مغناطیسی یا فریت ساخته می شوند . ورقه ورقه کردن هسته ها و یا استفاده از فریت به عنوان هسته ، برای کاهش تلفات فوکو است . هسته ترانسفورماتورها باید تا حد امکان دارای قابلیت نفوذ مغناطیسی خوب و هدایت الکتریکی بد باشد . به همین دلیل هسته های فریتی فقط در صنعت مخابرات به کار می روند ، زیرا در این صنعت به دلیل وجود فرکانس های بالا ، تلفات فوکو در هسته زیاد می شود . در ترانسفورماتورهای قدرت از هسته های مغناطیسی ورقه ورقه استفاده می شود . برای جلوگیری از لرزش صفحات و ایجاد صدا ، ورقه ها باید کاملاً یه یکدیگر فشرده شوند . بستن ورقه ها به یکدیگر به وسیله پیچ یا خار و یا قابی که روی آنها پرس می شود ، انجام می گیرد . این وسایل توسط مواد عایق الکتریکی و غیر مغناطیسی از ورقه ها جدا نگه داشته می شود
