آشنایی با موضوع
تنبیه عبارت است از ارائه یک محرک آزارنده یا تنبیه کننده به دنبال یک رفتار نامطلوب برای کاهش دادن احتمال آن رفتار. برای مثال اگر بعد از انجام رفتاری نا مطلوب از سوی کودک مثلا گفتن یک حرف تند با عصبانیت و با ارائه یک محرک آزارنده مثل زدن به او خواسته باشیم که احتمال بروز رفتار نامطلوب را در او کاهش دهیم او را تنبیه کردهایم. از عوارض جانبی نامطلوب تنبیه این است که احساس ناخوش آیند حاصل از تنبیه در لحظه تنبیه شدن از طریق شرطی شدن کلاسیک با شرایط تنبیهی و شخصی یا اشخاص تنبیه کننده تداعی می شود و سبب انزجار تنبیه شونده از معلم یا تنبیه کننده می گردد.
