امروزه به خاطره ساخت و ساز ها که به صورت بلند مرتبه به وجود می آید و عدم رعایت هویت شهری باعث شده است که بی هویتی و اغتشاشات بصری در شهر هر روز بیشتر شود. بنابراین بدنه و جداره های شهری به عنوان مصداقی از منظر خود شهری نیازمند توجه تام و تمام به عنوان یکی از عناصر القا کننده هویت شهری در شهرها می باشد. فضای شهری بیشترین ارتباط را با مردم و محیط زندگی برقرار میکند و در نتیجه نقش بسزایی در هویت بخشی و احساسآرامش به شهروندان دارد. در این میان یکی از عناصر مهم محیط شهری ، محیط منظر است که ، نقش ویژه ای را ایفامی کند.
معماری منظر شاخه‌ای از معماری است که با سازماندهی زمین و ساختمان‌ها برای استفاده و بهره‌مندی انسان سروکار دارد و به فضای بیرونی- چه از دیدگاه محیط زیست و طبیعت، چه از دیدگاه رابطه آن با زندگی انسان و چه از دیدگاه هنر و زیبایی‌شناسی- می‌پردازد. این دانش سعی در درک ارزش‌ها و زیبایی‌های طبیعت و سرزمین‌ها و تفاوت‌ها و قابلیت‌های محیط دارد تا در قالب طرح و نگرشی نو، راهکارهای استفاده بهینه از آن و چگونگی تجدید حیات محیط را در مقیاس خرد و کلان جستجو کند.
