نوعی از موتور جریان متناوب موتور AC آسنکرون است که توان مورد نیاز در قسمت متحرک آن از طریق القای الکترومغناطیسی تامین می‌شود. موتورهای القایی AC پرکاربردترین موتورهایی هستند که در سامانه‌های کنترل حرکت صنعتی به کار گرفته می‌شوند. با اینکه طراحی موتورهای واداشتیی AC آسانتر از موتورهای DC است
یک موتور الکتریکی در روتور خود انرژی الکتریکی را به انرژی مکانیکی تبدیل می‌کند. برای تامین توان مورد نیاز روتور راه‌های مختلفی وجود دارد. در موتور القایی توان از طریق استاتور در روتور القا می‌شود. موتورهای القایی را به علت شباهت بسیار زیاد آنها به ترانسفورماتور ترانسفورماتور دوار نیز می‌نامند چرا که استاتور این موتورها از نظر عملکرد شباهت زیادی به سیم‌پیچ اولیه و روتور آنها به سیم‌پیچ ثانویه ترانس دارد.
برای ترسیم میدان دوار از شکل موج جریان های سه فاز در فواصل منظم و در یک دوره تناوب استفاده می شود. حالا تصور کنید هر چه دوره تناوب در زمان کوتاه تری تکرار گردد مسلماً سرعت چرخشی میدان دوار نیز بیشتر خواهد شد و بالعکس با افزایش زمان دوره تناوب سرعت میدان دوار کندتر می شود.
یکی از کمیت های شبکه برق متناوب، فرکانس است که با دوره تناوب نسبت عکس دارد. پس می توان نتیجه گرفت یکی از عوامل مؤثر بر سرعت میدان دوار، فرکانس شبکه برق می باشد ولی از آنجا که فرکانس متناسب با عکس زمان تناوب است، بنابراین با کاهش فرکانس، سرعت چرخش میدان دوار، کم می شود و با افزایش فرکانس، سرعت چرخش میدان دوار زیاد می شود.
