آشنایی با موضوع
منظور از تحقیقات میدانی، تحقیقاتی است که موضوع مورد مطالعه در اختیار محقق قرار داشته باشد. اطلاق اصطلاح میدانی به مفهوم ارتباط مستقیم و رویارویی محقق با پدیدههای مورد مطالعه است. تحقیق میدانی اساساً برای مطالعه موضوع هایی مناسب است که نگرش ها و رفتارها از طریق آن به بهترین نحو در درون محیط های طبیعی آنها شناخته می شوند. تحقیق میدانی به خصوص برای مطالعه فرآیندهای اجتماعی که در طول زمان کامل می شوند مناسب است. برای یک محقق میدانی، معمولاً فرمول بندی قضایای نظری، مشاهده رویدادهای تجربی و ارزیابی نظری همگی جزء یک فرایند در حال پیشرفت به شمار می روند. اگر چه ممکن است فرمولهای نظری قیاسی جلوتر از مشاهدات واقعی قرار گیرند، معمولاً یک نظریه را کمتر می آزمایند و مبنا را بر آن می گذارند. به بیان دقیقتر تا نظریه ها یا شناخت های تعمیم یافته را در جریان مشاهدات به وجود می آورند.
