Maternal depression and anxiety are related to compromises in maternal emotional responsivity and infant socio-emotional functioning. In this paper we evaluate how mothers in treatment for mood and anxiety disorders describe their psychological functioning on self-report measures and whether these self-descriptions fit to the emotional quality of their interactions with their infants. This is a critical question because mothers’ self-reports are often used as key indicators of the mothers’ functioning, including their ability to parent.
