The anomalies of the sex differentiation have various etiologies and are likely to have a physical and psychical impact; some cause disorders of sex development (internal and external genitals) of 46 XY individuals. Our work concerns those which will be reared as females. It deals with the analysis of the psychological functioning (gender identity, self-image, body image, anxiety, depression, etc), cognitive capacities, the study of sexual behaviors and the assessment of quality of life. The research protocol proposed to the 15 women we met consists in a semi-directive interview, an intelligence scale (Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale [WAIS] III), two projectives tests (Rorschach and TAT), a quality of life scale (WHOQOL 26), a questionnaire about sexual behaviors. The outcomes, analyzed in a qualitative and a quantitative way, show heterogeneous cognitive capacities within the low limit of the normal; the eight women who changed sex assignment during childhood (boy towards girl) have weaker results than the seven others. Quality of life is significantly low in the fields of psychology and social relations. The sentimental and sexual life is marked by a strong inhibition. The heterosexual act is avoided whereas homosexual sexuality is significantly higher than in the general population. The doubt about their female gender identity is obvious and often linked to difficulties in the relations with the mother. Family secrets filled the story of their life. Social and family isolation is marked and the psychic suffering is obvious. Lastly, all the women complain about the lack of a meaningful speech from their parents, especially from their mother, about their personal story.

La vie, elle, le tuerait sous le roc, l’abîme ».
