Transsexualism and gender dysphoria, gender identity and orientation were used to be attributed to psychosocial factors. Although always in discussion, they are now attributed to hormonal abnormalities during intra-uterine period of cerebral development. Thanks to the recent technological progress, it is now possible to visualize the brains, especially the hypothamus, the cerebral connectome, the synaptic organization which is different according to the sex (male or female). On the other hand, diverse pathological states and syndromes, which represent natural experiments, confirm the founding importance of hormones in the cerebral development during the intra-uterine period of development.
