سازمان های صنعتی یکی از رشته های اقتصاد است که در رابطه با رفتار استراتژیک شرکت ها، سیاست های نظارتی، سیاست ضد تراست و رقابت در بازار تعریف می شود. سازمان های صنعتی نگاهی گذرا به تئوری اقتصادی در رابطه با مدل قیمت گذاری صنایع دارد. اقتصاددانان و دیگر اساتید دانشگاه که درباره سازمان های صنعتی مطالعه می کنند به دنبال افزایش شناخت روش های فعالیت صنایع، بهبود مشارکتهای صنایع در رفاه اقتصادی و همچنین بهبود سیاست های دولت در ارتباط با این صنایع هستند. مطالعه سازمان صنعتی به نظریه بنگاه ها استوار است که شامل مجموعه ای از نظریه های اقتصادی که در تلاش برای توصیف، توضیح و پیش بینی ماهیت یک شرکت از نظر وجود، رفتار، ساختار آن و ارتباط آن با بازار است. سازمان های مختلفی برای پیشبرد تحقیق و همکاری در زمینه مطالعه سازمان های صنعتی وجود دارد. یک چنین سازمانی در حقیقت "جامعه سازمان صنعتی" (IOS) است که در سال 1972 توسط "استنلی بویل" و "ویلارد مولر" برای پیشبرد تحقیقات در مورد سیاست ضد تراست، سیاست های نظارتی و رقابت و قدرت بازار در بازارهای جهان واقعی تاسیس شده است. استفاده گسترده از نظریه بازی ها در اقتصاد صنعتی به صادرات این ابزار به دیگر شاخه های اقتصاد خرد، مانند اقتصاد رفتاری و مالی شرکت ها منجر شده است. سازمان های صنعتی اثرات عملی قابل توجهی در قانون ضدتراست و سیاست رقابت داشته است. توسعه سازمان های صنعتی به عنوان یک رشته مجزا مدیون "ادواردو چمبرلین"، "ادوارد میسون" و به خصوص "جو بین" در میان سایر دانشمندان است.
