میدانیم که یکی از شاخصه‌های معرف مدیریت بهره‌وری، استفاده صحیح و مطلوب از منابع در اختیار است. این منابع شامل نیروهای انسانی، مواد، ماشین‌آلات، پول، روش، تکنولوژی، اطلاعات و... می‌گردد.ولی آنچه که درمیان این عوامل به عنوان حلقه مفقوده قلمداد می‌گردد، مدیریت بر خود است که غالبا به فراموشی سپرده می‌شود. ما اغلب این بزرگترین و مهمترین سرمایه زندگیمان را، که همانا خودمان هستیم، بدست فراموشی سپرده و از آن غفلت کرده‌ایم. خود مدیریتی به دنبال تغییر نگرش و شخصیت نیست، بلکه می‌خواهد رفتار را تحت کنترل در بیاورد و اگر لازم باشد تغییراتی رادر آن ایجاد کند، به عبارت دیگر خود مدیریتی از معرفت‌پذیری اجتماعی نشات می‌گیرد.
