This article reviews what hypnosis is, to understand the actual conception of its mechanisms and its indications. To reach this goal, we make a brief review of the hypnosis’ history to show that very early the importance of a particular state of consciousness was identified, just as much as the constation which the practice of the hypnosis led to a particular and necessary relational dynamics. The modern understanding of the hypnosis resumes these two characteristics, while the therapeutic levers are more exactly identified, in particular around the concept of analogy.
